Every day, the release of new songs cause stir in the music scene as they gain masses of fans. The month of June this year is no less, filled with some new must-hear albums from your favourite artists.
RTJ4 – Run the Jewels:
On June 3, 2020 Run the Jewels released their new highly anticipated album RTJ4. This album contains a variety of new sounds and brilliant features from the likes of 2 Chainz and Pharrell Williams. Each of these songs brings with it an interesting beat and catchy lines but also references and discussions about the ongoing issues of police brutality that are taking place in the United States and how these hate crimes need immediate stopping. For an album with a message behind it, RTJ4 is a must-listen. This album rightfully received widespread critical acclaim.
Artist 2.0 Deluxe – A Boogie wit da Hoodie:
Earlier this year A Boogie wit da Hoodie released the sequel to his 2016 breakout mixtape Artist, Artist 2.0. Artist 2.0 has multiple features from DaBaby to Lil Uzi Vert and contains a wide range of songs appealing to many types of fans. With the Deluxe version of the album, A Boogie brings back the songs you all loved with the addition of 9 new songs. The additions to the album are a good listen but not as great as the songs on the original album. They serve as a reminder of the great songs present in the original however stop at that as overall these songs take a dip qualitatively.
Kitchen Sink – Nadine Shah:
On June 26, 2020, Nadine Shah, an upcoming English artist released her 4th studio album named Kitchen Sink. This album is filled with new songs and brilliant production brought by Infectious Studios. Although this album features no other artists, all the songs are solo songs that fit her sound extremely well while having an adequate blend with experimentation with different sounds. The album has been one that has met critical acclaim worldwide, receiving an 86/100 on Metacritic it has shown its mettle in the English music industry thus without a doubt Kitchen Sink is a must-listen.
I’m Gone – Iaan Dior:
Iaan Dior, one of the newer faces on the music scene, released his second album this month on June 12, 2020. After the release of his debut album Industry Plant and his 2 newest singles, Sick and Tired featuring Machine Gun Kelly as well as Prospect featuring Lil Baby, fans were anticipating Iaan’s new album and when I’m Gone released it did not disappoint. With no other features other than the ones from his 2 singles the album is short and sweet and I recommend giving it a listen while reading or studying. The songs on the album are solemn and calming thus they create a sort of unexplainable safe space for the listener.
Aside from the traditional releases in music, from songs to albums, South Asian music labels have also picked up steam in June 2020.
One such example is BIY music, a platform featuring an instrumental 100 Pakistani voices with a focus on patriotic songs. Others such as EMI Pakistan, a label that has been active since 1948, is also thriving today. CMV is a Bangladeshi label, founded in 2003, that is also celebrating new releases in 2020.
All in all, across the globe and when it comes to our neighbours, there is much new music to look forward to, for it is a remedy for the tragic state of the world as it currently exists.
